Anna Karlsson lives and work in South East London. With a background in conservation, she’s one of the founding members and trustee of a charity called Down2Earth, helping organisations to create the opportunities to work towards basic human needs and to become self-sustainable. She has worked within the not for profit sector for the past 8 years, and is currently working for an international organisation creating more sustainable cotton supply chains as their Sustainable Development Manager. Her favourite rainforest animal is the Red-Eyed Tree Frog, an indicator species, showing if the rainforest is healthy.

* What inspires you?
Seeing impact and hearing stories from the field, this could be hearing stories of success from people who live or work in the rainforest, or hearing how a species such as the red-eyed tree frog is not endangered at the moment!

* What makes you angry?
Companies and people who buy their supplies without questioning where they are from and then not taking any responsibility for trying to change how these supplies are being produced.

* What is your personal mission?
Be the change you want to see in the world.

* If you were Prime Minister, what would be the first thing you’d change?
I would do 2 first things! I would agree to and enforce a Tobin tax as a global law (tax on financial transactions, UK and US are resisting this), which could raise billions to be used for social and environmental work. Second thing would be to enforce GDP indicators that are more inclusive of environmental and social aspects of progress, and making clear policies on how companies need to address this.

* Why did you agree to become a bloomtrigger ambassador?
I think the work that bloomtrigger does is great. Who wouldn’t like to be an Ambassador for such a brilliant concept!

* Can you describe a typical workday?
I leave home at 8am and cycle into work (not every day, but trying to do it more days every week!), which takes me 30 min. I often have breakfast at work and often have morning calls with China and India, where we have farm services teams working with cotton farmers and other stakeholders in the complex cotton supply chain. This could be about communication material we need, reviewing baseline data or talking about budgets. Lunch is often at my desk, which is not the best way to eat lunch! Afternoon could include going through travel plans with the team, writing information for our website or having meetings. I sometimes have meetings for the charity I’m a trustee of in the evenings.

* Can you think of a place or event you have been that has really inspired you?
Many, I think if you get to meet people that can inspire you in any way, that is an inspiring event.

* What’s the best advice anyone’s ever given you?
That you can’t expect others to do what you won’t do yourself.

* What’s your favourite book or film of late?
Funny Weather by Kate Evans, a comic book about “Everything You Didn’t Want to Know About Climate Change, But Probably Should Find Out”.

* If you could get anyone to become a part of the bloomtrigger project who would it be and why?
Jeremy Paxman, think he would be great for campaigns.

* How do you go green in your daily life?
I try to simplify my life as much as possible.

* Do you have a favourite quote you can share with us?
Be the change you want to see in the world – Gandhi.

* If you found yourself stranded in a rainforest, what is the one thing you would like to have with you?
Something to be able to make fire.
